It’s official.. I have a new favorite keyword tool and it’s called the Long Tail Pro.
So I thought I’d write a review and share the results of a cool little experiment I conducted.
Remember last year when Google suddenly stopped showing exact search volumes on their keyword tool?
Well that kind of messed with my plans a little bit.
I remember logging in to do some keyword research and seeing this..
“This page shows ranges for search volumes. For a more detailed view, set up and run a campaign.”
In other words if you want the data then you’ve gotta’ pay.
So once again Google had decided to screw with us SEOs.
I mean 100k-1M..
C’mon what are we supposed to do with that?
Straight away I sat up and wondered what the hell I was going to do.
For a while I pretty much stopped doing keyword research altogether and just started writing random pieces of content.
And ya know what?
My results kind of sucked.
So when I heard there was this tool called Long Tail Pro that was still showing real search volume data I had to check it out.
I got a 7 day trial for just $1 here.
Within 3 minutes of signing up I had a big smile on my face because I knew I was back in business.
Here’s what happens when I search “how to remove blackheads” into the Google keyword tool.
10k-100k really doesn’t tell us that much.
And here’s what happens when I search the same keyword into Long Tail Pro.
So it was a big moment of relief to see those exact search volumes again.
But then I noticed something else..
The Long Tail Pro software actually grades the competition of each keyword by looking at the websites already ranking on Google.
It then tells you if the keyword is easy, medium or hard to rank for.
So that got me wondering..
What would happen if I created a new website and wrote a bunch of articles targeting these low competition keywords.
Are they really easy to rank for?
I decided that I was going to target the acne niche.
More specifically “blackheads” because I used to have acne and blackheads when I was younger so it’s something that I can write about easily.
So I type “blackheads” into the Long Tail Pro search box and filtered it to only show low competition keywords..
Out of 500 keywords the Long Tail Pro algorithm had decided that 50 of them were low competition.
Time For A Long Tail Pro Experiment..
So I bought a brand new domain and a hosting account and I created a new WordPress website.
Over the next 2 weeks;
- I wrote and posted a 500 word article for each keyword that the Long Tail Pro tool had decided was easy to rank for.
- Each article had a either a video or an image and I did a lot of internal linking between the articles.
- And for monetization I recommended a Clickbank product within the articles.
Writing 50 articles in 2 weeks was quite a challenge but I wanted to get all of the articles written as soon as possible.
(Lots of Bulletproof coffee and a white noise app definitely helped get me through!)
Because it was a brand new domain it took some of the articles a while to get indexed but to my surprise a good chunk of them were landing in the top 30 of Google right away.
I even had a few 1 rankings for keywords that get over 500 searches per month.
After 30 days 75% of my articles were on the first page of Google and the rest were on page 2 or 3.
And of course this meant my website was getting traffic!
After just 6 weeks my website was getting around 300 visitors per day.
And because the traffic was targeted and they wanted to get rid of their blackheads I started to make sales as an affiliate on Clickbank. 🙂
Here’s an update of the Clickbank account as I write this post..
Thanks to the Long Tail Pro and a little bit of effort in the space of just 2 weeks I built a website that now makes me almost $400 per week on average!
And it was so easy.
Why Try The Long Tail Pro?
There are literally thousands of other main keywords you could input into Long Tail Pro that will reveal thousands of low competition keywords you can rank for and make money from.
Sure it’ll take some effort to write the articles but it’s definitely worth it. 🙂
I’ve been doing internet marketing and SEO for about 8 years now and I can honestly say that the Long Tail Pro tool is one of the best tools I have ever purchased.
If you want to find a goldmine of low competition keywords then I definitely recommend giving it a try.
You can get a 7 day trial of Long Tail Pro here for only $1.
